Ace backs away a bit before continuing.

"Hey...I'm all for a pleasant reunion, but in off-chance these guys aren't playing with a full deck, I think only one us should go up there. It will be easier for two to rescue one than the current alternative."

Kurt smiles.

"And I guess that if it's a trap, we can't risk losing our mechanic to it, right?

Okay, I'm going in. You guys cover me."

"Well...Daton (looking over his shoulder) over there took all those extra classes in diplomacy, so he'd be my first choice in dealing with those guys."

Having made sure that Daton and Ace are adequately positioned to cover him if need be, Kurt begins his approach.

The guards notice and bristle with alarm as the fatigue-clad spaceman comes within thirty feet.  They go straight for their guns, and the one with the radio goes for that, as well.

Kurt reaches for the sky.

"Easy there. I don't want trouble."

The men shout back at Kurt.  Their words are hard to understand, what with those scarves over their mouths and the words themselves being in Chinese.

He tries his best to look nonthreatening, but this is definately not what he was prepared for.

The strange words coming from Kurt cause the guards to shout louder.  The one without the radio begins advancing on Kurt, waving his pistol menacingly.  The one with the radio brings it up to his face.

The radio-less guard jerks his pistol at Kurt and fires twice.  Kurt feels one impact--it barely wings his upstretched right arm, but it stings like hell.  The one with the radio is shouting into it, his tone decidedly panicked.

Fuck this.

Kurt springs into action, closing the distance and jumping the pistol-wielding guard for a quick disarm.

[Infested Paladin]

Daton's rifle cracks, illuminating his weapon and face for a flash. The guard with the radio reels and shouts and jerks the heel of his gun-wielding hand to his chest. Lighting and the color of the jumpsuits make it hard to spot how badly he's bleeding. Ace lights off a round, too, but no one is hit.

The radio holder keeps shouting into the radio and takes his hand off his chest long enough to fire two wild shots into the brush after the flashes from Ace and Daton, both wide misses. The other guard blazes a duo at Kurt, but only one hits, again a wing.

Fed up with getting shot at, Kurt storms up on the one who's already plugged him twice and grabs for his gun. The two get both hands on the gun and struggle back and forth a bit, but Kurt, through a delicate combination of unarmed combat training and bleeding on the man, wrests the gun away, which clatter to the ground behind him, out of the guard's easy reach.

[Infested Paladin]

Daton fires again, putting a shot into the radio-holder at center mass. The man twists and falls to the ground, his gun and radio clattering onto the cracked pavement. Ace thinks he might have a shot on the guard still standing, but holds his fire, afraid of hitting Kurt by accident. The other guard, panicked, attempts to push past Kurt and grab his gun. Kurt takes a step back to let him move by, but as the guard reaches down for his gun, he steps back in and brings his knee up solidly into the man's face. The guard goes limp and flops over onto his back, his mouth and nose a mess of blood, some of which is gooped across the knee of Kurt's fatigues. He is quite unconscious.

The radio on the pavement is squawking with little radio chirps, along with harsh interrogative statements in Chinese. In the distance, somewhere inside the Astrodrome compound, an alarm starts to wail.

Kurt gives the KO'd guard a kick in the ribs for good measure.

"Asshole."

Quickly collecting the radio and their guns, Kurt makes his way back to the team in sprint, clutching his arm to stem the bleeding.

The guns have the trademark Glock blockiness to their frame; a few moments of scrutiny under a good light source will reveal their model number. Every few seconds, the radio barks more undecipherable questions.

Another alarm starts up in the distance, slightly out of synch with the one already howling its way up and down the scale. Kurt joins his companions in their cover to discuss what to do next. Will they charge through the now-unguarded gate before it's reinforced? Look for another way in? Back off and rethink? Whatever the decision, it's obvious to all three that they'll have to make it before whatever agency posted the Chinese-speaking guards responds.
